Would you kick back and craft all day? Would you lounge by the pool? Find some volunteering gigs?
I've tried to envision what life would be like if I didn't have a job. And by job, I mean a 40+ hour a week, aspiring for a raise, can't take a vacation because you're swamped commitment.
Right now, I love my job. I work for a non-profit, do work that matters and is related to my education and training, and am compensated well enough to not want for much.
But when I think about what it will take to sustain the level of work that I'm doing (I work 50+ hour weeks and travel frequently) for a long-term career in my field and the added level of work it will take to advance, it is hard to see how it is all worth it.
To me, not having a job does not mean NOT working. It means that I can do the work that I want, without having to worry about the money that may or may not come with it. I can work on developing my skills in home renovation, spend more time serving non-profits as a board member, coach others on their financial goals, and focus more energy on educating our child.
So, what would you do if you changed to a different race and "retired"?
